Description

Masala stands for a varying blend of spices and herbs
used in traditional Indian cuisine. You’ll love the whole
grain goodness and nuttiness of brown rice combined
with the intensely aromatic Indian spice blend of
cinnamon, cardamom and black pepper. This savory
blend will add a burst of spicy Indian flavor to any meal.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Make Chicken Tikka Masala by stirring in ½ cup diced tomatoes with the rice, seasoning pouch, and liquids. Cook per package directions. Add warmed, precooked, diced chicken breast or thighs and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro.
  • For quick and easy pilaf, toss in 2 tablespoons of dried currants or raisins and cook as directed. Garnish with 2 tablespoons of toasted coconut and slivered almonds.

Cooking Instructions

Stovetop:

  1. In a medium saucepan combine 1 ¾ cups of water, rice, seasoning and 1 Tbsp. of olive oil. Stir well and bring to a boil.
  2. Cover and reduce heat to low. Do not lift lid while cooking. Simmer for 28 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat. Let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with fork and serve.

Microwave:

  1. In a microwaveable glass casserole, combine rice, seasoning, 1 3/4 cups of water, and 1 Tbsp. of olive oil (Optional).  Stir well and cover.
  2. Reduce microwave power to 70%.  Cook covered for 28 minutes.
  3. Leaving the cover on, let sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Fluff with a fork and serve.

*Microwave ovens may vary so adjust time and temperature accordingly
