Basmati, Organic White

Long grain aromatic rice with the fragrance of Indian Basmati, but no elongation. An exotic choice when a fluffy, drier texture and an exotic aroma is desired, e.g., stir fry, salads, stuffing, pilaf, desserts.

  • 1 cup Lundberg® White Basmati rice
  • 1½ cups water or broth

Does white basmati start as brown basmati rice which is then dehulled and had the bran layers removed?

If so, is your white basmati rice unpolished, semi-polished, or polished?

If semi-polished or polished, would you explain the steps involved in polishing this rice?

Please confirm enrichments/fortifications are not added at any point along the way.

I'm dealing with hypersensitivities to a wide variety of foods, so am trying to determine if this product will be a good candidate for me to trial.

Thank you for contacting us, Glenda. We understand your need to be careful in finding out our process and we appreciate your willingness to get in touch with us.

Yes, our White Basmati starts out as brown rice. In fact, all rice is brown at first- it is the milling process that determines whether rice is brown or white. As for our process, we use a rotating stone that removes the outer bran of the rice to make it white. We do not use any agents to polish it or to achieve the desired whiteness. The process is all mechanic, no processing agents are used. After the desired whiteness is achieved, the rice goes right into the bag. We hope you find this information helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any further questions!
