Organic Short Grain Brown Rice

Short grain brown rice is one of the most full-flavored rices and is an excellent source of whole grain. After cooking, the grains are soft and cling together. Because of these properties, Short Grain Brown rice is especially suitable in recipes where a creamy texture is desired, such as puddings, rice balls, croquettes, paella, and risotto.

I have a bag of Short Grain Brown Rice in my pantry.  What I would like to know is how to read the code on the package.  I assume it will tell me how old this product is or the recommended shelf life.  There is not much worse than cooking up some rice that has sat on the shelf too long.

I would appreciate any help you could give.  Thanks.................

    Hi Edith,
We definitely agree with you & have posted instructions on our website regarding how to read our date codes.  The recommended shelf life for our raw rice products is 12 months.  You can determine the age of your particular bag of rice by viewing "Reading Date Codes" at http://www.lundberg.com/Info/Date_codes.aspx.

Thanks for being a Lundberg customer!

This is the best rice I've ever eaten!  I need to find out how to buy it in bulk from you.

I want to use a rice cooker to cook my short grain brown rice.  How much water to rice would you recommend I use?

    Hi Kathleen,
When using a rice cooker, you can actually use the same water-to-rice ratio as stovetop cooking: 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference in flavor between the brown and the golden rose? I know the brown has a very nutty flavor, it almost reminds me a little of corn. Also, is the brown rice more nutritionally dense than the golden rice?

I've been buying the brown exclusively but I was thinking of getting golden rose just out of curiosity, I haven't decided yet.

    Thanks!

    Hi Maria,
Golden Rose is actually a brown rice as well so you'll still get that delicious nutty texture & flavor. "Golden Rose" is just the name of the variety. It is a medium grain rice, so it's going to be a little sticker than a long grain brown but not as sticky as the short grain - A perfect all-purpose rice :)
