Lundberg Black Japonica™

Juicy with a nutty, mushroom-like flavor energized with an exotic sweet spiciness, brought to you exclusively from Lundberg Family Farms®. A good-looking whole grain brown rice blend of short grain black rice and medium grain mahogany rice originates from Japanese seeds.

Cooking Instructions

  • 1 cup Lundberg Black Japonica™
  • 2 cups water or bouillon
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine
  • Salt to taste

Rinse rice. Put all ingredients in pot with tight-fitting lid. Bring to boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 45 minutes. Do not remove lid. Remove from heat and allow to sit covered for 10 minutes. Serves 4 to 6. A rice cooker may be used with the same rice-to-water ratio.

    This is great! One of the most nutritious foods in the world! Black rice is one of my favorites also. I also cooked some several recipes for this rice and my family loved it! I saw some several recipes here http://www.blackrice.com/recipes . maybe it will serve helpful if you need some recipes.

    I really like to try new things. I like this black rice even better than brown or any other. The hard part is getting others to try it. I take it to church suppers occasionally. The reaction is "what's that" and "it looks like a pile of ants" But I love that's what matters. I tell 'em don't knock it till you try it.

    I love the rice. But should I have any concerns with the seed originating in Japan?????  Also, my son has kidney disease so I have to watch his potassium intake. Could you please give me the facts?   Thanks

    This rice after cooked needs nothing to spice it up or mix it with.  It also adds to the color on the plate.  It smells great while cooking, or reheating.  Easily the best rice mix I have ever tasted.

    5 stars! This Lundberg Japonica is absolutely delicious! I cooked it by baking it in the oven in a Le Creuset  French oven with heavy lid. Marvelous!

    I bought this rice by mistake, when I meant to buy wild rice for a recipe. Boy, am I happy that I bought the wrong rice! This black japonica rice is delicious, and so much tastier than "normal" brown rice! Even my picky husband approved.
